Scouting … a Profession with a Purpose 

Since 1910, Scouting America has helped build future leaders of this country by combining educational and outdoor adventure activities with lifelong values and fun.  

What Professional Scouters Do 

It is the job of the commissioned professional Scouter to inspire, recruit, train, and support Scouting America’s volunteers, in addition to working with community leaders and rallying public support for Scouting's activities. 

If you have skills in human relations, public relations, marketing, fundraising, finance, accounting, business management, or sales, then you should consider taking the opportunity to become a commissioned professional. 

Compensation and Benefits 

We offer a number of practical benefits for professional staff. The package includes major medical, dental, vision, and prescription coverage in addition to long-term disability, accident, and life insurance, and a matching savings plan for retirement. The starting total compensation, for a new District Executive, is over $55,000 annually.  

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university 

  • Adults must have attained age 21 unless that requirement is prohibited by any applicable law 

  • People-oriented, having the ability to work well with adult volunteers, community and business leaders, and representatives of other organizations 

  • Able to work varied hours when necessary to achieve positive objectives 

  • Believe in Scouting America’s mission and subscribe to its principles and standards 

 

Current Openings: 
Part-Time Program Facilitators: 

Do you love working with kids of all ages? Can you lead, organize and excite the youth you work with? A Program Facilitator leads various programs with the Narragansett Council. These include:  

Scoutreach Units – be the scout leader or assistant scout leader for a unit with youth primarily from our urban neighborhoods where it is not possible to deliver programs with traditional Scouting volunteers.  To be the primary leader you must be 21 or older, but assistant leaders can be 18+.  

COPE. The COPE program is run a handful of times throughout the school year. The primary location for this job will be at Cranston at Camp Champlin.? 

Weekend Program. We are looking for staff who are available to work primarily on Saturdays, with some mid-week opportunities, to provide fun outdoor experiences for Scouts and non-Scouts.?

Eligibility 

To serve as a member of the Camp Staff or COPE staff, you must: 

  • be a registered member of Narragansett Council, Scouting?America, or be willing to register if offered a position. 

  • live by the Scout Oath & Law and have a desire to grow the Scouting Program. 

  • meet any age or certification requirements for the position sought/offered. 

  • abide by the Staff Guidelines and Code of Conduct 

  • be willing to have fun!
